During a consultation, the doctor will review your medical history, conduct a physical examination of your scalp, and discuss your hair loss concerns and goals. They may ask about family history, lifestyle factors, and any previous treatments you have tried. They will also write you an order for blood work to make sure we rule out any underlying issues you might not be aware of.
Assessment may include a visual examination of your hair and scalp, pulling tests to check for hair shedding, and blood tests to rule out underlying medical conditions. A scalp biopsy may also be recommended in some cases.
Your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific type of hair loss, severity, and individual needs. It may include a combination of topical, oral, and/or intralesional treatments. The plan will also outline the frequency of treatments and any necessary follow-up appointments.
Most patients tolerate the mild discomfort easily. It is similar to getting blood drawn. A chiller and buzzer can be used for those patients who need/request it. On a scale of 1 to 10 most patients label the discomfort about a 2.
Results can vary depending on the treatment and individual response. Topical treatments like minoxidil may take 3-6 months to show visible results, while other treatments may take longer. Your doctor will provide a timeline based on your treatment plan.
Most patients respond well to the treatments. The effectiveness of treatment can vary based on the type of hair loss and individual factors. Your doctor will discuss potential outcomes and signs of improvement during follow-up visits. Our goal is to grow hair and prevent/slow further loss. If there is too much damage, shifting to the latter goal will still have a significant impact.
The doctor will consider your medical history, type of hair loss, previous treatments, and personal preferences. They will also factor in the results of any tests performed during the assessment.
Initial consultations typically last 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of your case and the treatments being discussed. Follow-up visits are typically around 30 minutes or less.
